Volleyball Hosts Brown On Wednesday

    PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College volleyball team (4-3) will hold its first home game of the 2013 season at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 11, against Brown (0-3). The Friars went 3-1 last week, defeating Quinnipiac (3-0), Savannah State (3-0) and Bethune Cookman (3-0). The team's lone loss came against Stetson (3-1).

    Junior Mackenzie Ziegler (Portage, Wis.) and freshman Michelle Cruz(Midland Park, N.J.) were named to the Stetson Westin Classis All-Tournament team (Sep. 6-7), where the Friars faced Savannah State, Stetson and Bethune Cookman.

    Cruz and sophomore Jordan Wiesler(Coconut Creek, Fla.) were named America East Rookie of the Week and America East Setter of the Week, respectively, on Monday, Sept. 9.

    Ziegler ranks fifth in the America East and leads the team in kills with 65. Wiesler ranks second in the America East with a team-best 222 assists. Cruz ranks second in the America East in digs (121) and third in service aces (13) and leads her team in both categories.

    SCOUTING BROWN: Brown enters Wednesday's game with a 0-3 record on the season. The Bears are led by Thea Derrough and Alexandra Rieckhoff who have 29 kills each. Sarah Lucenti has a team-best 51 assists and Kathryn Conner leads in digs with 43. Brown's three losses have come against New Hampshire (3-2) Missouri State (3-0) and St. John's (3-0).
