Providence College volleyball freshman Michelle Cruz
(Midland Park, N.J.) earned America East Rookie of the Week and sophomore Jordan Wiesler
(Coconut Creek, Fla.) was named America East Setter of the Week, announced by the conference on Monday, Sept. 9. Providence played Quinnipiac Wednesday and won 3-0. The Friars also played in the Stetson Westin Classic on Friday-Saturday, going 2-1 in the tournament.
Cruz, earned her second straight Rookie of the Week honor. The freshman compiled 72 digs, six service aces, six assists and one kill on a four-game week. For her performance over the weekend she was named to the Stetson Westin Classic All-Tournament team. Currently, Cruz ranks second in digs (121) and third in service aces (13) in the America East.
Wiesler earned Setter of the Week by recording 123 assists, 33 digs, 10 kills, four blocks and two service aces in four games. She ranks second in the America East in assists with 222.
Providence returns to action Wednesday, Sept. 11 vs. Brown for its frist home game, starting at 7:00 p.m.
