    PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College volleyball team (0-3) will travel to nearby Smithfield, R.I. to compete against Bryant University (1-3) on Tuesday, Sept. 2 at 7:00 p.m.

    Providence wrapped up its first weekend of competition at the Kristin Dickman Invitational at the Naval Academy. The Friars went 0-3 suffering defeats from Navy (3-1), The Citadel (3-1) and Southern Utah (3-0). Sophomore Michelle Cruz (Midland Park, N.J.) was named to the All-Tournament Team after recording 49 digs (4.45 per set), six assists and two services aces. Fellow sophomore Kayla Fitzgerald (Redlands, Calif.) posted a double-double performance in the Friars first match of the season, tallying 11 digs and 10 kills against Navy.

    Bryant opened its season going 1-3 in the Hampton Inn-vitational on Friday and Saturday. The team's lone win came against UMass-Lowell (3-1). Bryant suffered losses to Army (3-1), Towson (3-0) and St. John's (3-0). Elena Lohr leads the Bulldogs with 42 kills (3.00 per set) to go along with 34 digs. Vika Nesterov has a team-best 110 assists (7.86 per set) while Debora Magalhaes has a team-high 62 digs (4.43 per set).

    In last years match-up (Sept. 25, 2013), Providence defeated Bryant, 3-1. Fitzgerald led the way for the Friars, compiling 16 kills in the match and 17 digs. Junior Jordan Wiesler (Coconut Creek, Fla.) tallied 40 assists in the competition.

    After Tuesday's game the Friars travel to Niagara, N.Y. for the Purple Eagle Invitational on Friday Sept. 5 and Saturday, Sept. 6.
