Margot Royer Named Head Volleyball Coach
Aug. 2, 2000 PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Providence College Assistant Vice President for Athletics John Marinatto today announced the appointment of Margot Royer as head coach for the women's volleyball team. Royer replaces Ken Nichols, who resigned in May. Royer comes to Providence after spending the last three years as the assistant volleyball coach at Angelo State University. She was also a kinesiology lecturer at the San Angelo, Texas school. During her time at Angelo State, she worked as the volleyball camp director and served as co-coach for the Junior Olympics Club. Royer also spent time this summer as an adjunct instructor at Pennsylvania State University. A 1995 graduate of the University of Scranton, Royer played four years of volleyball. A captain during her junior and senior years, she was named the Middle Atlantic Conference's Most Valuable Player in 1994 and 1995. She also earned the Frank O'Hara Award for outstanding student-athlete at Scranton in 1995. Royer went on to earn her master's degree in kinesiology at the University of Maryland in 1997 while serving as a graduate assistant in the school's department. After graduation, she worked as the Fitness Technician/Consultant at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center before joining the coaching ranks at Angelo State.
