    Royer Adds Carlu To 2009 Recruiting Class

    PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College volleyball team signed 2009 recruit Stephanie Carlu on Thursday, April 30. Carlu joins defensive specialists Cassie Muzzonigro and Shelby Spicer in Head Coach Margot Royer's Class of 2013.

    Carlu, a 5-foot, 10-inch utility player from Greene, R.I., was a four-year letter winner in volleyball and indoor & outdoor track at Coventry High School in Coventry, R.I. Carlu captained the volleyball team during her senior season and was a First-Team All-State and All-Division Selection at middle blocker. She led Coventry to the Rhode Island Division I State Championships and was named to the All-Tournament Team.

    At Coventry, Carlu was a member of the National Honor Society and the Spanish Honor Society during her junior and senior years and was an Academic All-State selection.

    "Stephanie has experience playing a number of positions which will be a big asset to us," Royer said. "She is very athletic and has quick reflexes. We are happy she is a Friar!"

    The Friars open the 2009 season at the Niagara University Tournament on August 29-30.
