PROVIDENCE, R.I. -
The Providence College volleyball team has two recruits who signed National Letters of Intent for the 2014 campaign. Providence will be rejoining the BIG EAST in the upcoming season after spending the previous four years in the America East.
Abbie Trzeciak (Cranberry Township, Pa.) comes to Providence as a middle blocker/right side. She was a three sport athlete with four years of experience in volleyball, basketball and track & field at the Seneca Valley High School. She captained the volleyball team her junior and senior seasons and captained the basketball and track team her senior year.
"Abbie is a nice addition to our team. She is a strong hitter and a great all-around athlete. We are excited to work with her at Providence," said Royer-Johnson.
Sierra Thompson (Peoria, Ariz.), a right-side/middle blocker, will join the Friars after playing eight years of volleyball. She competed with the Zia Volleyball Club (2006-08) and the Club Arrowhead team (2008-14). As a member of Club Arrowhead, Thompson led the team in hitting percentage (.331), total sets played (36), total kills (110), block assists (60), block solos (28) and assists (50) in 2013-14. Thompson was named the Most Valuable Player and made Second Team All-District in 2013. As a freshman, she earned the Lion Award for character. Thompson also attended three Junior Nationals (Reno, Nev. - 2010 and Columbus, Ohio - 2012). She will soon compete in Minneapolis, Minn. for the Junior Nationals for 2014.
"Sierra is a long player with a quick arm swing. She blocks well and is a very coachable athlete. We can't wait to start working with her at PC," said Royer Johnson.
