Providence Volleyball Wins Dartmouth Invitational
PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The Friars overcame a slow start in Saturday's final match and defeated host Dartmouth College, 3-1 giving them their second consecutive Dartmouth Invitational title.
After losing Game 1, 15-1, the Friars came back and won the next three games, 15-12, 15-13 and 15-9. In Game 2, the teams tied 11 different times and changed leads on seven occasions. With the score, 12-12, PC rallied for three straight points to take the win.
In Game 3, Dartmouth jumped out to a 7-2 advantage, but saw Providence drive back with six unanswered points to take an 8-7 edge. Dartmouth regained the lead at 11-8, but PC again won six points in a row and proved too much for the Big Green to overcome.
In Game 4, Providence gained a 6-2 lead and never looked back, ultimately going up 13-7 and winning by a 15-9 advantage.
The Friars were led by junior co-captain Sherryl Jones, who had 24 kills and 28 digs to lead the team in both categories. Sophomore Rachel Doxtater taliied 14 kills and 21 digs and was named All-Tournament. Sophomore setter Colleen Lee tallied 40 assists in the match.
The Friars improve to 13-6 overall.
