    VOLLEYBALL SQUAD WINS UNC-ASHEVILLE TOURNAMENT

    Asheville, NC -- The Friars ended a five-game losing streak by winning the UNC-Asheville "Blocksport Challenge" Volleyball Tournament this weekend.

    Providence defeated Samford, 3-1 by scores of 15-5, 15-11, 12-15 and 15-11. Junior Sherryl Jones recorded a game high 19 kills on 41 attempts. She also tallied 20 digs and two blocks. Senior Heidi Brady recorded 17 kills and six blocks. The Friars then defeated Belmont University, 3-0 with scores of 15-9, 15-2 and 15-4. Jones again led the squad with her 12 kills and eight digs.

    In the Championship game, PC defeated host UNC-Asheville, 3-0 by scores of 15-12, 15-10 and 15-7. Jones recorded 10 kills. Sophomore setter Colleen Lee tallied six kills, 20 assists and 11 digs.

    Brady and Lee were named All-Tournament as the Lady Friars improve to 9-6 overall.
