Providence Volleyball Defeats Georgetown In Five Sets

WASHINGTON, D.C.- The Providence College volleyball earned a 3-2 victory over BIG EAST rival Georgetown in Washington, D.C. on Friday, Nov. 17. With the victory, the Friars secured their first winning season since 2007. The win was also the second victory over Georgetown this season.

SET ONE HIGHLIGHTS:
-Providence dropped the first set, 25-14.
-Addison Root (Wichita, Kan.) led the team with three kills.

SET TWO HIGHLIGHTS:
-The Friars came back to win set two, 25-13.
-Root and Allison Impellizeri (Seaford, N.Y.) each tallied four kills.
-McKenzie Lydon (Stuart, Fla.) recorded six digs in the set.
-The team recorded five blocks in the set as well as holding the Hoyas to a -.094 hitting percentage.

SET THREE HIGHLIGHTS:
-Providence lost the third set, 25-16.
-Root again tallied four kills.
-Lydon added six digs in the set.

SET FOUR HIGHLIGHTS:
-The Friars won a close set four, 25-23.
-Both Root and Impellizeri recorded seven kills in the set.
-Allison Barber (Woodbury, Minn.) had 17 assists in set four.
-Lydon recorded 11 digs.
-The Friars tallied a .432 hitting percentage in the set.

SET FIVE HIGHLIGHTS:
-The Friars won the final set 15-9 to close out the match.
-Impellizeri and Lindsey Schaible (Tampa, Fla.) both recorded two kills in the final set.
-Barber added five assists.
-PC held Georgetown to a -.267 hitting percentage in the final set.

MATCH HIGHS:
-Root led the Friars with 18 kills, with Impellizeri close behind with 15.
-Lydon recorded 25 digs in the five set affair. Megan Onyundo (Woodbridge, Va.) also had double digit digs with 10.
-Barber led the team with 43 assists.
-The team recorded 10 total blocks in the match.

NEXT UP:
The Friars will close out their regular season with a match at Villanova on Saturday, Nov. 18. The match is set to begin at 7:00 p.m.
