PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Providence College was defeated by St. John's, 3-1 (30-18, 26-30, 30-13, 30-16) in BIG EAST volleyball action on Saturday, November 16, 2002 at Mullaney Gymnasium in Providence, R.I.

With the loss, Providence drops to 2-28 on the season and 0-12 in BIG EAST play. St. John's improves to 16-16 overall and 5-7 in conference matches.

Providence freshman Katie Fleming (Cary, N.C.) recorded her second straight double-double with 12 kills and 11 digs. Sophomore Ayana Cadres (Los Angeles, Calif.) led the Friars on offense and tied for a match-high with 18 kills. Providence senior Sandy Fanning (E. Amherst, N.Y.) anchored the defense and tied for a match-high with 18 digs.

For the Red Storm, Sarah McCrary led the squad on offense and defense, tying for match-highs with 18 kills and 18 digs.

Providence will conclude the season on Sunday, November 17 with a conference match against Connecticut at 2:00 p.m. in Mullaney Gymnasium. Seniors Sandy Fanning, Susan Fanning (E. Amherst, N.Y.), and Daniella Miele (Huntington, N.Y.) will be recognized in a pre-match "Senior Day" ceremony.
