Dolan led PC with seven kills against Manhattan

RIVERDALE, N.Y. - The Providence College volleyball team dropped its last match of the season to Manhattan College, 3-0, on Wednesday, November 11 in Riverdale, N.Y. The Lady Jaspers won the match with set scores of 25-19, 25-20 and 25-21. With the defeat, the Friars end the 2009 season with a 10-16 record, while Manhattan improves to 8-21.

Providence was led by a strong offensive outing from sophomore middle blocker Shelagh Dolan (Westford, Mass.). Dolan paced the Friars with seven kills, hit at a blistering .636 clip and added three block assists. Fellow sophomore middle blocker Lauren Fletcher (Syracuse, N.Y.) added six kills and two block assists for PC at the net. Sophomore setter Carly Morrison (Larkspur, Calif.) notched 25 assists and added four kills, while freshman libero Cassie Muzzonigro (Gibsonia, Pa.) led the Friars defensively with a match-high 13 digs.

The match marked the last contest in the four-year career of lone Friar senior Abby Majewski (Sunderland, Mass.). The 5-9 outside hitter recorded five kills and four digs in her final match in a Friar uniform.

Manhattan enjoyed a 42-to-32 advantage in kills for the match and recorded 11 service aces to the Friars six. PC had a strong night at the net, holding a 5-to-0 advantage in total blocks.

Diane Strutner led the Lady Jaspers with 11 kills, while Kelsey Huntoon registered 10 digs to lead Manhattan defensively.
