ALBANY, N.Y. – The Providence College volleyball team was defeated, 3-0 (25-9, 25-23, 25-19), at Albany on Friday, Nov. 8. Providence’s record now stands at 12-17 and 4-7 in the America East. Albany improves to 7-17 overall and 7-4 in the America East.
Albany used a .417 hitting percentage to open up the match with a 25-9 first set win.
The second set was close with the Great Danes edging the Friars, 25-23. In the set, freshman Kayla Fitzgerald (Redlands, Calif.) and junior Mackenzie Ziegler (Portage, Wis.) recorded five kills each. Sophomore Jordan Wiesler (Coconut Creek, Fla.) led both teams in digs for the set, recording eight. The Friars had the advantage of kills in the set, with 15 compared to Albany’s nine.
Providence lost the third set, 25-19. Fitzgerald led the team in kills with three in the final set. Junior Kelly Ashmore (St. Louis, Mo.) and freshman Michelle Cruz (Midland Park, N.J.) had five digs each.
Overall, Fitzgerald had a match-best 10 kills. Wiesler posted a double-double with 21 assists and 13 digs.
Albany was led by Amy Hunter who had nine kills. Mikala McCauley tallied 32 assists and Viktoriia Stroilo led the Great Danes in digs with 14.
The Friars play in their last road game of the regular season tomorrow, Saturday, Nov. 9 at Binghamton. The match is set to start at 3:00 p.m. and will be streamed live at AmericaEast.TV.
