Providence Volleyball Falls To Creighton

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College women’s volleyball team faced BIG EAST foe Creighton on Friday, Oct. 27. The Friars dropped the match three sets to one. With the loss, Providence’s record moves to 15-11 (4-7) on the season.

FIRST SET HIGHLIGHTS:
-The Bluejays claimed set one with a score of 25-19.
-Sophomore Jenae Alderson (Brooklyn Park, Minn.) led the Friars attack with four kills.
-Freshman McKenzie Lydon (Stuart, Fla.) tallied four digs in the first set.
-Sophomore Addison Root (Wichita, Kan.) recorded three service aces.

SECOND SET HIGHLIGHTS:
-The Friars came back to win set two, 25-20.
-Providence went on multiple scoring runs throughout the set. After being down 20-16, the Friars ended the set on a 9-0 run, capped off by a service ace by freshman Allison Barber (Woodbury, Minn.).
-Root led PC with three kills while Alderson, sophomore Cayla Veverka (Collegeville, Pa.), and sophomore Lindsey Schaible (Tampa, Fla.) all added two kills as well.
-Schaible assisted on three blocks in the set as well.
-The Friars held Creighton to a -.029 hitting percentage.

THIRD SET HIGHLIGHTS:
-Creighton took set three with a score of 25-15.
-For the second straight set, Root led PC in kills. In set three, she added three to her total
-Junior Kara Mason (Boca Raton, Fla.) tallied four digs in set three.
-Both Alderson and Veverka each tallied solo blocks in the set.

FOURTH SET HIGHLIGHTS:
-The Bluejays claimed the fourth and final set with a score of 25-20.
-Root again led the team with three kills in the set. Alderson, junior Megan Onyundo (Woodbridge, Va.) and Schaible each added two kills.
-Root also recorded five digs in set four.

MATCH HIGHS:
-Root led the team with 10 kills with Schaible and Alderson not far behind with eight each.
-Barber tallied 33 assists in the loss.
-Lydon led the team in digs with 10.
-As a team, the Friars tallied 10 total blocks with Schaible accounting for one solo block and assisted on four others.
-The team also tallied nine service aces.

The Friars finish off their weekend series against #16 Creighton on Saturday, Oct. 28 at 5:00 p.m.
