PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Providence College senior Sandy Fanning (E. Amherst, N.Y.) registered a double-double with 10 kills and 12 digs, but despite winning their first game in a BIG EAST match this season, the Friars were defeated by Rutgers, 3-1 (30-10, 22-30, 30-17, 30-17), in volleyball action on Sunday, October 27, 2002 at Mullaney Gymnasium in Providence, R.I.

With the loss, Providence drops to 2-23 overall and 0-7 in conference matches. Rutgers improves to 14-8 overall and 3-4 in BIG EAST play.

Sophomore Ayana Cadres (Los Angeles, Calif.) led the Providence offense with 16 kills, while freshman Rachel Tucker (Burleson, Texas) notched a match-high 19 digs for the Friars.

Stephanie Travioli led Rutgers with a match-high 22 kills and team best 14 digs.

Providence returns to the court on Friday, November 1 for a 4:00 p.m. match at Notre Dame.
