Providence Volleyball Earns Fourth BIG EAST Win Of The Season

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College women’s volleyball team hosted the Xavier Musketeers on Friday, Oct. 13. The Friars defeated the Musketeers in four sets to improve to 15-7 and 4-3 on the year. With the loss, Xavier falls to 7-15 (2-6) on the season.

First Set Highlights:
-The Friars took the first set with a score of 25-23.
-The Friars held Xavier to a hitting percentage of .105 in the first set.
-Sophomore Addison Root (Wichita, Kan.) led Providence in kills with five with sophomore Jenae Alderson (Brooklyn Park, Minn.) not far behind with four kills in the set.
-Freshman Allison Barber (Woodbury, Minn.) recorded 11 assists and two service aces for  Providence.
-Freshman McKenzie Lydon (Stuart, Fla.) tallied five digs in set one.



Second Set Highlights:
-Xavier battled back in set two, taking the set win with a score of 25-18.
-Root added another five kills in set two.

Third Set Highlights:
-Providence fought back from a deficit in the third set, winning with a score of 25-22.
-The Friars recorded a hitting percentage of .452 in the third set and tallied 16 kills as a team.
-Alderson led the team in kills with four while root, junior Megan Onyundo (Woodbridge, Va.), and sophomore Cayla Veverka (Collegeville, Pa.) all added three kills each.
-Barber recorded 13 assists in set three.

Fourth Set Highlights:
-The Friars claimed the fourth and final set with a score of 25-21.
-Providence held Xavier to its worst hitting percentage of the night as the Musketeers hit .088 in the fourth set.
-For the third set of the match, Root recorded five kills.
-Lydon tallied five digs in the final set.

Match Highs:
-The Friars had two players with double-digit kills. Root led the team with 18 while Alderson recorded 11.
-Barber had 44 assists on the night and was one dig away from a double-double.
-Lydon led the team with 12 digs on the night.
-Alderson had a strong defensive night as she recorded five block assists.

Next Up:
Providence plays again on Sunday, Oct. 15 for a match against the Butler Bulldogs at 1:00 p.m.
