PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College women’s volleyball team fell in straight sets to BIG EAST opponent, St. John’s. The Friars fall to 10-10 overall (1-5 BIG EAST) and the Red Storm improve to 13-8 (3-3 BIG EAST).

The Friars jumped out to a lead but could not stop St. John’s pressure in the first set. St. John’s pulled away and won the set 25-22. Kayla Fitzgerald (Redlands, Calif.) collected a team high of five kills, while Marina Rose (Coventry, Conn.) added four digs. Nicole Fletcher (Syracuse, N.Y.) notched two kills on two total attacks for a kill percentage of 1.000.

The Friars lost the second set 25-13. Freshman Emily Horner (Mission Viejo, Calif.) collected three kills on six total attacks for a kill percentage of .500. Michelle Cruz (Midland Park, N.J.) added four digs for the Friars.

The Friars fell in the third set, 25-15. Freshman Catherine Harding (Kalamazoo, Mich.) led the Friars with four digs in the third set and totaled 23 assists in the match. Fitzgerald finished the match with 10 kills. The Friars will host Villanova at 7:00 p.m. on Oct. 14 at Alumni Hall on the campus of Providence College.
