    PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College volleyball team was defeated by Binghamton, 3-1 (27-25, 21-25, 20-25, 18-25), on Friday night at Alumni Hall. Providence record now stands at 8-10 (1-1 AE) and Binghamton improves to 3-12 (1-1 AE).

    Providence won the first set (27-25), scoring three straight points to close out the set. Junior Annie Russian (Round Rock, Texas) and freshman Kayla Fitzgerald (Redlands, Calif.) registered kills in the run, and the Friar defense forced an attack error on Binghamton.

    The Friars played close sets with the Bearcats for the next three sets, but were unable to come up with another set victory.

    Overall, Providence was led by junior Mackenzie Ziegler (Portage, Wis.) and Fitzgerald who had 15 and 10 kills, respectively. Sophomore Jordan Wiesler (Coconut Creek, Fla.) tallied 41 assists and led the team in digs (10). Russian recorded five service aces to lead the team. Freshman Michelle Cruz (Midland Park, N.J.) and Ziegler contributed two services aces.

    Binghamton was led by Grace Vickers who tallied 17 kills. Amanda Dettmann had a game-best 48 assists and Xiomara Ortiz had 20 digs.

    The Friars return to action tomorrow, Saturday, Oct. 5, when they host Albany. The match is set to start at 5:00 p.m. at Alumni Hall in Providence, R.I.
