Volleyball Falls To Butler In Straight Sets

INDIANAPOLIS, IND. - The Providence College volleyball team fell to BIG EAST foe Butler in straight sets (3-0) on Friday, Sept. 30 in Indianapolis, Ind. The Bulldogs won the first set, 25-18, followed by a tightly contested 25-20 victory in the second set. Butler closed out the match with a 25-14 victory in the third set. The Friars fell to 12-7 overall (0-3 BIG EAST), while the Bulldogs improved to 13-6 (2-1 BIG EAST).

Kayla Fitzgerald led the Friars with nine kills in the match, nearly missing out on a double-double as she also tallied 11 digs. Cayla Veverka and Jenae Alderson recorded seven and six kills, respectively. Alderson also contributed a team-high 17 digs in the effort, as one of four Friars in double-digit digs.

Chicyia Clark posted 25 assists in the match to go along with 10 digs. Kara Mason joined Fitzgerald, Alderson and Clark in double-figure digs, with 13.

Anna Logan and Whitney Beck led the Bulldog’s offensive attack with 17 and 12 digs, respectively. Taylor Takeda had an impressive defensive effort with a match-high 22 digs, while Makayla Ferguson and Christina Porada each added 14 digs apiece. Ferguson paced the Bulldogs with 34 set assists.

The Friars return to action on Oct. 1 against Xavier in BIG EAST Conference play. The match is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. in Cincinnati, Ohio.
