Volleyball Falls To St. John's, 3-0

QUEENS, N.Y. - The Providence College volleyball team fell to BIG EAST foe St. John’s in straight sets, 3-0 (21-25, 19-25, 16-25), on Friday, Sept. 29 in Queens, N.Y. The Friars dropped to 13-5 overall and 2-1 in the BIG EAST. The Red Storm improved to 9-9 (1-2 BIG EAST).

SET ONE HIGHLIGHTS:
- Addison Root recorded three kills on four attacking opportunities
- Jenae Alderson also recorded three kills for the Friars on eight total attacks.
- The set was tied 3-3 before St. John’s took the momentum and gained a 12-6 advantage.
- Providence battled back to get within one point on two occasions (13-12 and 19-18), but the Red Storm prevailed 25-21 to take a 1-0 lead in the match.

SET TWO HIGHLIGHTS:
- Root led the Friars in kills during the second set, with four.
- Cayla Veverka, who returned to the court for the first timeafter sitting out with injury, added three kills on six attempts.
- The set was tied, 10-10, but St. John’s reeled off three-straight points to get some separation.
- Providence got itself within three (22-19), but St. John’s closed the set with three-consecutive points.

SET THREE HIGHLIGHTS:
- The Friars were within striking distance, trailing by just one points (10-9).
- St. John’s closed the set with a 15-7 scoring advantage.
- Root led Providence with seven kills in the third set, while Veverka notched three kills on four attempts.

MATCH HIGHS:
- Root led the Friars overall with 14 kills.
- Veverka was second on the team in kills during her return to the floor.
- Lindsey Schaible hit a team-high .400 (3-5).
- Allison Barber totaled 30 set assists, while McKenzie Lydon and Chicyia Clark posted 11 and 10 digs, respectively.

NEXT UP:
The Friars travel to South Orange, N.J. to take on the Seton Hall Pirates on Saturday, Sept. 30. The match against the Pirates is set to start at 7:00 p.m. -GO FRIARS!-
