The Providence College volleyball team (5-9) lost its second game of the Friar Classic, 3-1 (27-25, 23-25, 25-14, 25-15) to Morgan State (4-8) on Saturday morning in Alumni Hall. Saturday is the final day of the Ninth Annual Friar Classic, with three additional games being played.
The first set went to extra points, with Morgan State taking the set 27-25. Sophomore Nicole Fletcher (Syracuse, N.Y.) and freshman Kayla Fitzgerald (Redlands, Calif.) had four kills in the set.
In the second set, a combined five straight services aces were registered by both teams. Providence had 10 kills in the set to Morgan State's 9, but the Bears took the set, 25-23.
Morgan State took the final two sets 25-14 and 25-15 to bring them to a 3-1 victory.
The Friars were led by Fitzgerald, who had 11 kills. Sophomore Lindsay Witt (Basking Ridge, N.J.) also had double-digit kills with 10. Sophomore Jordan Wiesler (Coconut Creek, Fla.) had a game-best 33 assists and freshman Michelle Cruz (Midland Park, N.J.) registered 15 digs.
Morgan State was led by Samantha Prescott who tallied 12 kills. Natalie Chafeh recorded 31 assists. Haley McClure and Tamara Leslie tied for a team-best 10 digs.
Providence will play its last game of the Friar Classic today at 3:00 p.m. in Alumni Hall against Howard.
