Volleyball Splits Two at DePaul Invitational

Chicago, Ill. -- The Providence College Volleyball team went 1-1 in the second round of the DePaul Invitational, dropping a 3-0 decision (7-15, 10-15, 7-15) to Central Michigan University before defeating Valparaiso University, 3-1 (8-15, 15-4, 15-12, 16-14), on Saturday, September 16.

Against Central Michigan, junior Sarah Katinger (Stratford, Conn.) paced the Friars with 16 kills and seven digs, while sophomore Susan Fanning (E. Amherst, N.Y.) registered 33 assists for PC.

Junior Annie Cella (Burr Ridge, Ill.) led PC against Valparaiso with her 23 kills and 34 digs. Katinger contributed 17 kills and 30 digs, while senior Heidi Filippi (Wooster, Ohio) registered 17 kills and 17 digs. Fanning had 61 assists for PC.

Providence is now 8-4 overall and returns to action on Tuesday, September 19, when they travel to Kingston, R.I., to take on the Rams of the University of Rhode Island. Game time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
