Volleyball Wins Second Match In Friar Classic, 3-0 Over Coppin State

The Providence College volleyball team won its second match of the 2007 Fourth Annual Friar Volleyball Classic on day two with a 3-0 victory over Coppin State. Providence won by the scores 30-13, 30-12, and 30-23. The Friars were led by senior co-captain Sarah Fleming (Saint Paul, Minn.) who tallied a match-high 17 kills and a hitting percentage of .467. Providence improves to 7-4 on the season.

After trailing the first game 1-0, the Friars bounced back and went on an 11-2 run behind a couple of kills from Fleming's nine in game one. Providence jumped out to a 7-0 run in game two thanks to magnificent setting from junior Sara Sheehan (West Chester, Pa.) who had a match-high 39 assists. Sheehan also added seven digs, five aces and three kills. Junior Elizabeth Flynn (Bellerose, N.Y) hit .500 and finished with 14 kills and a match-high five blocks.

Coppin State kept game three close as senior Indira Laurencin (Castries, St. Lucia) tallied five of her team-high 15 kills, nine digs and two blocks. Sophomore Shawdae Wilkes (Baltimore, Md.) played well for the Eagles with 15 assists, eight digs and two aces.
