PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College volleyball team defeated Coppin State, 3-1 by the scores of 30-22, 30-15, 28-30, 30-22 to improve their record to 4-5. Providence will play Chicago State and Colgate Saturday, September 16 at 12:30 and 5:30 p.m., respectively.

Sophomore Jeanette Toney (Brooklyn, N.Y.) continued her excellent play on Friday, September 15 as she led four Friars with double figures in kills with 18. Sophomore Aida Cadres (Los Angelos, Calif.) added 10 kills, 14 digs, and a game-high five solo blocks and three blocking assists. Junior Sarah Fleming (Saint Paul, Minn.) and freshman Jess Storer (Wantagh, N.Y.) contributed 12 and 11 kills, respectively. Storer also tallied 12 digs.

Coppin State (0-5) was led by sophomore Jasmine George (Houston, Texas) who compiled 18 kills, 12 digs and two blocks. Freshman Kanishia Sheppard (Omaha, Neb.) contributed nine kills and nine digs.

In game 1 of the third annual Friar Invitational, the Colgate Raiders defeated Chicago State 3-1 by the scores, 24-30, 30-24, 30-11, 30-24. Colgate (5-5) was led by sophomore Katrina Zawojski (Palo Alto, Calif) who tallied a game-high 19 kills. Junior Erin Kanetzke (Cincinnati, Ohio) added 13 kills in the victory for the Raiders. Freshman Meghan Fanta (Hillsboro, Wisc.) had a game-high 41 setting assists and three service aces.

Chicago State (0-12) was led by sophomore Shamara Clark (Bloomington, Ind.) with 12 kills. Freshman Jessica Khouri (Bowmansville, Ont.) had 10 kills to go along with a game-high three blocks. Junior Katie Pommier (Kankakee, Ill.) had 33 assists and a game-high 18 digs.
