Volleyball Drops Two at DePaul Invitational

Chicago, Ill. -- The Providence College Volleyball team lost two games in the DePaul Invitational to the University of Alabama, 3-0 (15-7, 15-2, 15-13), and host DePaul, 3-0 (15-3, 15-4, 15-11), on Friday, September 15.

In game one against Alabama, junior Annie Cella (Burr Ridge, Ill.) led the Friars with 13 kills and 12 digs, while senior Heidi Filippi (Wooster, Ohio) posted 11 kills and seven digs. Fellow senior Sarah Katinger (Stratford, Conn.) recorded 10 kills and 10 digs, and sophomore Susan Fanning (E. Amherst, N.Y.) registered 38 assists for PC.

Against DePaul, Cella and Katinger contributed nine kills apiece, while Filippi had seven kills. Fanning added 28 assists for the Friars.

Providence is now 7-3 overall and returns to action on Saturday, September 16, when they take on the Central Michigan University (10:00 a.m.) and Valparaiso University (4:00 p.m.) in the second round of the DePaul Inviational.
