Volleyball Drops Second Game At Dartmouth Invitational

     HANOVER, N.H. - The Providence College volleyball team played against Grand Canyon on Friday afternoon, losing 3-0 (27-25, 25-15, 25-22). The Friars played earlier in the day against Manhattan and lost, 3-0. Providence moves to 5-5 on the season and Grand Canyon improves to 2-4.
    

    Grand Canyon took the first set, 27-25, behind 17 kills. The Antelopes held the Friars to 14 kills in the set. Junior Mackenzie Ziegler (Portage, Wis.) totaled six kills and sophomore Jordan Wiesler (Coconut Creek, Fla.) had eight assists in the set.

    In the second set, Grand Canyon pulled away for a 25-15 victory. Both teams traded points until the 12 point mark when the Antelopes scored seven straight points.

    Junior Annie Russian (Round Rock, Texas) registered five kills in the third set but the Friars were unable to the grab win. Providence tallied 17 kills in the set and Grand Canyon had 12.

    Overall, Ziegler led the Friars with 11 kills. Wiesler added a game-best 30 assists and freshman Michelle Cruz (Midland Park, N.J.) had a team-best 17 digs.

    Shannon Dugan led the Antelopes in kills with 14. Jessica Posse tallied 23 assists and Mackenzie Phelps had 19 digs.

    Providence plays in the final day of the Dartmouth Invitational on Saturday. The Friars will play Central Connecticut State at 9:30 a.m. and Dartmouth at 2:30 p.m.
