HANOVER, N.H. - The Providence College volleyball team lost its opening match of the Dartmouth Invitational, 3-0 (25-18, 25-23, 25-20), against Manhattan on Friday morning. Providence moves to 5-4 on the season while Manhattan improves to 5-3.
In the first set, junior Mackenzie Ziegler(Portage, Wis.) led the set with four kills. The Friars had the edge in kills (14-12) but fell to the Jaspers, 25-18.
Providence tallied 14 kills again in the second set. The Jaspers registered 13 kills to edge out the Friars, and win the set, 25-23. Ziegler again had four kills.
Manhattan took the final set 25-20, to close out the game, 3-0. Sydney Volovski led the jaspers in the set, totaling five kills.
Overall, Ziegler led the Friars in kills with 11. Sophomore Jordan Wiesler (Coconut Creek, Fla.) recorded a team-best 24 assists and freshman Michelle Cruz(Midland Park, N.J.) finished with nine digs.
The Jaspers were led by Volovski with 11 kills and Teodora Peric with 28 assists. Allie Yamashiro and Malia McGuinness had 11 digs each.
Providence will play its second game in the Dartmouth Invitational today at 12:30 against Grand Canyon.
