Volleyball Splits Games at Liberty Invitational

Lynchburg, Va. -- The Providence College Volleyball team went 1-1 in the second round of the Liberty Invitational, dropping a 3-0 decision (12-15, 5-15, 7-15) to American University before sweeping Gardner-Webb University, 3-0 (15-4, 15-7, 16-14), on Saturday, September 9.

Against American, junior Annie Cella (Burr Ridge, Ill.) paced the Friars with 18 kills and 12 digs, while sophomore Susan Fanning (E. Amherst, N.Y.) registered 30 assists for PC.

Junior Sarah Katinger (Stratford, Conn.) led PC against Gardner-Webb with her 15 kills and 11 digs. Cella contributed 12 kills and 12 digs, while Fanning had 45 assists.

Providence is now 6-1 overall and returns to action on Tuesday, September 12, when host the Crusaders of The College of Holy Cross. Game time is schedule for 7:30 p.m. in Mullaney Gymnasium.
