Buffalo, N.Y. -- The Providence College Volleyball team swept Canisius College, 3-0 (15-6, 15-11, 15-4), in the opening round at the University of Buffalo Invitational on Friday, September 1.

Junior Sarah Katinger (Stratford, Conn.) led the Friars with 15 digs, 12 kills and two service aces, while senior Samanthaa Lennon (Montclair, N.J.) recorded 10 kills for PC. Sophomore Susan Fanning (East Amherst, N.Y.) posted 33 assists for the Black and White. Fanning and junior Annie Cella (Burr Ridge, Ill.) registered 14 digs each, and Deb Bihday (Warwick, R.I.) and Heidi Filippi (Wooster, Ohio) had 12 and 11 digs, respectively.

PC's win also marked Margot Royer's first win as a head coach.

The Friars improved to 1-0 on the season, while the Golden Griffins fell to 0-1 overall.

Providence returns to action on Saturday, September 2, when they take on Bucknell University and host University of Buffalo in the second round of the invitational. The Friars will play Bucknell at noon, and Buffalo at 3:00 p.m.
