    Esaí Vélez Pérez enters his first season as an assistant coach with the Providence College volleyball program.

    "Esaí will help us as a specialist in data volleyball and will also coach, focusing on our setter's improvement, both mentally and physically," said Head Coach Margot Royer-Johnson. "We are happy he is aboard."

    Vélez Pérez has worked as an assistant coach at the Volleyball Federation of Puerto Rico since January of 2009. He served as a statistician, scouted local teams and oversaw Puerto Rico's men's and women's national teams. Velez Perez's duties included logging statistics using data and video program software to help the teams achieve better performances. Through using the data software, traveled to the World Championships, World Club Championship, World League and Grand Prix. Coinciding with the Volleyball Federation of Puerto Rico, he also worked at the Carolina Campus at Eastern University as an assistant coach and statistician starting in August of 2011. In this role, Vélez Pérez used data volley and data video for the men's volleyball team in the National University League (Liga Atletica Interuniversitaria).

    From August of 2011 through May of 2013 Vélez Pérez taught social studies and history for Colegio San Felipe middle school in Arecibo, Puerto Rico. He coordinated the middle school curriculum and developed the plan for academics as well as conducted vocational training.

    Vélez Pérez worked at the University of Puerto Rico in the library (January 2007-January 2010) and athletic department (January 2010 to January 2011). In the athletic department, he was the director assistant and was responsible for all the administration athletic scholarships. He also evaluated student-athlete papers and assessed the students in administrative functions.

    Vélez Pérez earned a bachelor degree in Secondary Education as a History Major at University of Puerto Rico in May of 2011. In 2013, he obtained a Masters in Public Affairs, M.P.A. while majoring in Public Policy at Eastern University.
