Former Providence College track standouts Mary Cullen (Sligo, Ireland), Liam Reale (Hospital, Ireland), Roisin McGettigan (Wicklow, Ireland) and Marie Davenport (Ennistymon, Ireland) as well as current Friar Martin Fagan (Mullingar, Ireland) competed at the European Athletics Association Championships on August 7-13 in Gothenburg, Sweden.

Cullen '06, who recently captured the 5,000-meter title at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in her final collegiate race, ran a personal best time of 15:25.80 at the European Championships and placed 12th. Cullen's time was an improvement by 15.63.

Reale, also a 2006 graduate, qualified for the finals in the 1,500 meters as he ran a time of 3:41.97 in the second heat. In the finals, Reale ran a time of 3:42.65 and finished eighth overall.

Fagan, who will be entering his final season at Providence College this fall, competed in the 10,000 meters and ran a time of 28:54.04 and placed 11th overall. In June, Fagan finished second in the 10,000 meters at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships and earned All-America honors.

McGettigan '03 and Davenport '96 round out the list of athletes who competed at the European Championships. McGettigan ran the 3,000-meter steeplechase, while Davenport ran the 10,000 meters.
