PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The men's and women's track team will send three of its student-athletes to the 2009 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships to be held at the University of Arkansas on June 10-14, 2009. Senior Danette Doetzel (Macklin, Sask.) will compete in the 10,000 meters at her final NCAA Championship. Meanwhile freshman Hannah Davidson (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) and sophomore David McCarthy (Waterford, Ireland) have each qualified for their first NCAA Outdoor Track Championship.

Doetzel qualified for the NCAA Championships in the 10,000 meters at the BIG EAST Championships on May 2. She ran a personal-best time of 33 minutes 23 seconds, winning the title. Doetzel, a five-time All-American, was the runner-up finisher in last year's 10,000 meter race at the NCAA Championships. Doetzel will look to improve upon her second-place finish and capture All-America honors for the third time this year.

Davidson qualified in the 3,000 meter steeplechase. Davidson placed 10th at the NCAA East Regional Meet on May 30, 2009, qualifying at-large for the national championships. Davidson is ranked 20th in the NCAA with a personal-best time of 10:15.97.

McCarthy established himself as an NCAA contender last weekend at the NCAA East Regional Meet, winning the 1,500 meters in a time of 3:41.37. McCarthy's time ranks him eighth amongst his competitors. McCarthy placed fourth in the mile at the 2009 NCAA Indoor Track Championships and will look to claim All-America honors again at the NCAA Outdoor Track Championships.

The 2009 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships is being held at the University of Arkansas (Fayettville, Ark.) from June 10-14, 2009. The meet will be broadcast live on CBS College Sports station. Check your local listings for more information. Be sure to check back to Friars.com for more news and results.
