Junior Shane Quinn competes at 2013 East Regional Preliminary Championship

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College men's and women's outdoor track teams will send nine athletes to the NCAA Outdoor Track East Preliminary Championships in Jacksonville, Fla. on Thursday, May 29 through Saturday, May 31.
The Friar men's team will send six athletes, while the women's team will send three. On the men's side, sophomores Harvey Dixon (Aldershot, England) and Julian Oakley (Tauranga, New Zealand) will compete in the 1500 meter run, having both qualified earlier in the season at the Stanford Invitational (April 4) with times of 3:45.30 and 3:44.68, respectively. Graduate student Julian Saad (Trumbull, Conn.) will compete in the 5,000 meter run, also having qualified at the Stanford Invitational with a time of 14:01.90. Rounding out the events for the men, competing in the 10,000 meter run, will be juniors Benjamin Connor (Derby, England), Brian Doyle (Swansea, Mass.), and Shane Quinn (Waterford, Ireland). Connor and Doyle both qualified at the Stanford Invitational with times of 29:18.62 and 29:42.24, respectively, while Quinn qualified at the Payton Jordan Cardinal Invitational (May 4) with a time of 29:36.24.
The women's team will send three athletes to compete in the 5,000 meter run. Sophomore Sarah Mary Collins (Basel, Switzerland), senior Laura Nagel (Napier, New Zealand), and freshman Catarina Rocha (Peabody, Mass.) all posted qualifying times earlier in the season. Collins posted a qualifying time at the Stanford Invitational, running a time of 15:31.03. Collins also qualified in the 10,000 meter run with her BIG EAST Championship winning time of 33:36.36; however she has elected to focus solely on the 5,000 meter race. Nagel qualified at the Payton Jordan Cardinal Invitational, running a time of 15:58.33, and Rocha qualified with her time at the ECAC Championships (May 16), 16:25.52. Nagel captured All-America honors in the 5,000 meter run at the 2013 NCAA Outdoor Track Championships and captured All-America honors in the 3,000 meter run at the 2014 Indoor NCAA Championships (March 15). Nagel recently earned her second BIG EAST title in the 5,000 meter run, winning in a time of 16:23.35.
