Providence Track Wraps Up Competition At BIG EAST Championships

VILLANOVA, PA. – The Providence College men’s and women’s track team wrapped up competition at the BIG EAST Outdoor Championships on Saturday, May 13. The women finished with tied for sixth place earning 44 points and the men finished in seventh place earning 44 points.

Catarina Rocha (Peabody, Mass.), Abbey Wheeler (Pine City, N.Y.) and Keelin Hollowood (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) all raced in the women’s 5,000 meters. The Friar trio was part of the front pack that broke away after a slow first half. Rocha, Wheeler and Hollowood respectively finished third, fourth and fifth.

The Friar men had Julian Oakley (Tauranga, New Zealand), Nick Carleo (Newburyport, Mass.) and Marcus Karamanolis (Wellington, New Zealand) in the finals of the men’s 1,500. Oakley took third place with a time of 3:53.25, Carleo followed closely behind in 6th (3:55.60) and Karamanolis finished 12th in 4:07.97.

Millie Paladino (Morgantown, W. Va.) raced in the finals of the women’s 1,500 meters. Paladino placed fifth with a time of 4:32.05.

Racing in the final of the men’s 800 meters, James Campbell (Cumberland, Maine) took sixth place with a time of 1:56.11.

In the men’s 5,000 meters, Trevor Crawley (Cumberland, R.I.) and Hugh Armstrong (Ballina, County Mayo, Ireland) claimed seventh and eighth, respectively.

Paladino teamed up with Alexandra DeCicco (Holtsville, N.Y.), Brianna Ilarda (Perth, Australia) and Molly Keating (Rehoboth, Mass.) in the 4x800 meters with a time of 9:07.11.

The Friars next compete at the NCAA East Preliminary Meet at Lexington, Ky. on May 24-25.
