The Providence College men's and women's outdoor track teams competed at the BIG EAST Championships on May 5. The Friar men's squad was led by junior Max Smith (Dunedin, New Zealand) who won the 1,500 meter prelims. The women's team was led by sophomore Katie DiCamillo (Garden City South, N.Y.) who finished third in the 10,000 meter finals.

Smith ran the 1,500 meters in a stadium record time of 3:44.30. With the time he also qualified for the IC4A's and the NCAA Regionals. Freshman Hayden McLaren (Christchurch, New Zealand) also qualified for the IC4A's finishing the 1,500 meter prelims in eleventh in a time of 3:48.30. Junior James Lourenco (West Warwick, R.I.) placed eighth in the 800 meter prelims with a time of 1:51.36, qualifying for the IC4A's. Sophomore Charles Dewey (Worcester, Mass.) finished seventeenth in the 400 meter prelims with a time of 49.82.

DiCamillo finished the 10,000 meter finals in 35:00.90. The time qualified Katie for the ECAC Championships. Junior Michelle Childs (Cameron, Ont.) placed twelfth in the 10,000 meter race in a time of 36:58.75 also qualifying for the ECAC Championships. Senior Meghan Owen (Danielson, Conn.) finished fifteenth in the 1,500 meter prelims in a time of 4:35.32.
 

 

The BIG EAST Championships will conclude on Sunday, May 6 in Storrs, Conn.
