PROVIDENCE, R.I. -
Six women and five men will compete in individual events for the Friars. The BIG EAST Championships will take place from Friday, May 3 to Sunday, May 5 in Piscataway, N.J. at the Bauer Track and Field Complex. The Friars will begin competition on Saturday, May 4.
On the women's side, junior Jackie McCarthy (New Rochelle, N.Y.) will compete in heat one of the 800 meter run on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. Later in the day, senior Shelby Greany (Suffern, N.Y.) will run the 3000 meter steeplechase at 5:10 p.m. Following Greany, will be junior Emily Sisson (Chesterfield, Mo.), senior Sam Roecker (Charlton, N.Y.) and junior Erin Murphy (Easton, Mass.) in the women's 10,000 meter run at 5:45 p.m. on Saturday. Junior Laura Nagel (Napier, New Zealand) will wrap-up competition for the women in individual events with the 5000 meter run at 1:10 p.m. on Sunday.
On the men's side, freshman Julian Oakley (Tauranga, New Zealand) will represent the Friars in the 1500 meter run at 1:45 p.m. on Saturday. Junior Patrick Bowler (Westwood, Mass.) will also compete for the Friars on Saturday. Bowler will compete in the men's javelin throw at 4:30 p.m. Seniors Ahmed Ali (Boston, Mass.) and Dominic Channon (Nelson, New Zealand) will wrap-up competition on Saturday for the men in the 10,000 meter run at 6:25 p.m. Sophomore Shane Quinn (Waterford, Ireland) will be running the 5000 meter run at 1:30 on Sunday.
The Friars will have two relay teams competing for Providence at the BIG EAST Championships over the weekend. For the women, McCarthy, sophomore Caitlin Abelseth (Voorheesville, N.Y.) and juniors Elizabeth DeVivo (Riverside, Conn.) and Molly McCann (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) will compete in the 4x800 meter relay. On the men's side, junior Nik Andrews (Clarksburg, Mass.) and freshmen Austin King (Kempton, Pa.), Joseph Vercollone (Pembroke, Mass.) and Kevin Olsen (Marlboro, N.J.) will compete in the 4x400 relay.
