PROVIDENCE, R.I. -
The Providence College men's and women's track and field teams will travel to Cincinnati, Ohio to compete at the 2010 BIG EAST Championships this weekend. The Friars will send 19 athletes to the University of Cincinnati's Gettler Stadium.
Key Friars to watch over the weekend on the men's side include senior Hayden McLaren (Christchurch, New Zealand) and sophomore Dominic Channon (Nelson, New Zealand) in the 1500m. McLaren ranks third in the BIG EAST this season with a 3:43.95 time at the Mt. Sac Relays while Channon's time of 3:44.12 at the Boston University Valentine Invitational ranks fourth in the Conference. Senior Tom Webb (Williston, Vt.) will compete in the 5,000m.
The Friars will enter a strong 4x400m relay team consisting of graduate students Alan Pandiani (Shrewsbury, Mass.) and Kyle Mushaweh (Chelmsford, Mass.) along with juniors Brian Stannard (East Longmeadow, Mass.) and Thomas Manglaviti (Southhampton, N.Y.). Providence will look for a fast time from the 4x800m relay squad as well. McLaren and Channon will combine with sophomore Julian Matthews (Nelson, New Zealand) and freshman Nikolas Rebovich (New Hartford, N.Y.).
Freshman Shelby Greany (Suffern, N.Y.) and sophomore Sara Graney (Palisades, N.Y.) will highlight the women's side as they compete in the 3,000m steeplechase. Greany owns the third-fastest time in the BIG EAST this year while Graney's fastest mark stands at 20th in the Conference. The Friars will send graduate student Katie DiCamillo (Garden City, N.Y.) and freshman Sam Roecker (Charlton, N.Y.) to compete in the 5,000m as well.
The women will also send a 4x800m relay squad. Greany will combine with sophomore
Charlotte Ffrench O'Carroll (Dublin, Ireland), junior
Emma Perron (West Hartford, Conn.) and senior
Amie Schumacher (Wolcott, Conn.).
