April 17, 2014
PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Providence College senior Laura Nagel (Napier, New Zealand) was named BIG EAST Women's Track Athlete of the Week, today (April 17) by the conference.
The senior won the 1,500 meters at the Friar Invitational last weekend with a time of 4:20.86, a personal best and an ECAC-qualifying time. Her time was the best in the BIG EAST in the event over the weekend and puts her 24th in the nation and third in the conference this spring.
Nagel also led Providence to a first-place finish in the 4x800 meter relay after overtaking a Stony Brook runner to nab the lead in the final two laps. The Friars finished the relay in a time of 9:20.06.
The Friars return to action on Thursday, April 24 to compete in the historic Penn Relays (Philadelphia, Pa.).
