Track Opens Up Outdoor Season At Stony Brook Quad Meet

STONY BROOK, N.Y. – The Providence men’s and women’s Track teams opened their outdoor seasons at the Stony Brook Quad Meet on March 23. The Friars raced against Columbia University, Iona College, La Salle University and Stony Brook University.

Men’s Highlights

  • Nick Carleo (Newburyport, Mass.) won the 800-meters in a time of 1:56.05.
  • James Campbell (Cumberland, Maine) finished third in the 400 meters in a time of 51.03.
  • Jared Grossi (Warwick, R.I.) finished fourth in the 100 meters in a time of 11.6.
  • Stephen Robertson (Wakefield, Mass) and Thomas O’Neill (Middletown, N.J.) finished fourth and fifth in the 3,000 meters with times of 8:27.48 and 8:27.52, respectively.
  • John Olayiwola (New Britain, Conn.) and Joseph Hurton (Wakefield, Mass.) finished second and fourth in the Triple Jump, jumping 12.60m and 12.47m, respectively.
  • Carleo and Campbell teamed up with Michael O’Leary (Melville, N.Y.) and Marcus Karamanolis (Wellington, New Zealand) to win the 4x800 meters in a time of 7:56.61.

    Women’s Highlights

  • Alexandra DeCicco (Holtsville, N.Y.) finished third in the 800-meters with a time of 2:22.61.
  • Lauren Mullins (Binghamton, N.Y.) finished third in the 1,500 meters with a time of 4:47.43.
  • The team of Bridget Gonzalez (Baltimore, Md.), DeCicco, Aishling Quinn (Waterford, Ireland) and Molly Keating (Rehoboth, Mass.) finished third in the 4x800 meters with a time of 9:46.55.

  • The Friars will split the team to compete at multiple meets on March 31 and April 1. The team will compete at the Bryant Black and Gold Invitational, San Francisco State Distance Carnival and the Stanford Invitational.
