PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Providence College junior track star Kimberly Smith (Auckland, New Zealand) was named Trackshark.com Athlete of the Week on February 22. It marked the second time this season that Smith has earned the honor.

Smith competed in the 3,000 meters at the BIG EAST Championship of February 21 at the Carrier Dome in Syracuse, N.Y. Smith won the race in a time of 8:55.88 and set a new BIG EAST record by 17 seconds. In addition, she set a new Carrier Dome record by over two seconds and broke the Providence College record by over eight seconds. Geraldine Hendricken held the previous PC record in the 3,000 meters (9:04.43), which was set in 1989.

Smith also led Providence in the 4X800 meter relay, moments after winning the 3,000 meters. Smith ran the last leg of the 4X800 meters as the PC quartet finished first in 8:53.95.
