PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Providence College junior cross country and track standout Kimberly Smith (Auckland, New Zealand) was named Trackshark.com Athlete of the Week on February 1.

Smith competed at the Terrier Classic in Boston, Mass. on Saturday, January 30. She placed first in the 5,000 meters in a time of 15:18.54, which is the second fastest time ever run by a collegian. In addition, her time in the 5,000 meters set a new Providence College record. The previous record (15:42.71) was set by Marie McMahon at the 1996 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championship.

Smith, who qualified for the NCAA's in the 3,000 meters earlier this season, also qualified for NCAA's in the 5,000 meters.
