Men's and Women's Indoor Track Competes At Terrier Classic
Jan. 27, 2002 BOSTON, Mass. - The Providence College men's and women's indoor track teams competed at the Terrier Classic in Boston, Massachusetts, on January 25 - 26. On the men's side, freshman Dylan Wykes (Kingston, Ontario) earned a sixth-place finish (8:17.69) in the 3,000 meter run, to give the Friars their highest individual finish of the day. In the 5,000 meter run, senior Dermot Galvin (Kilrush, Ireland) finished eighth, in a time of 14:21.01. Freshman Pat Moulton (Pelham, N.H.) placed 17th in the event (14:37.17), junior Tyler McCabe (Mystic, Conn.) took 21st (14:42.27), and freshman Pat Guidera (Clonmel, Ireland) finished 32nd (15:04.53). In women's action, freshman Deirdre Byrne (Avoca, Ireland) finished first in the 1,000 meter run, with a time of 2:54.55. Junior Roisin McGettigan (Wicklow, Ireland) finished second in the mile (4:48.72). In the 800 meter run, junior Emer O'Shea (Limerick, Ireland) led the Friars with a fourth-place finish (2:13.94). In the 3,000 meter run, senior Kathryn Casserly (Galway, Ireland) paced the Friars with a ninth-place finish (9:50.74). Sophomore Lisa Cappello (Lockport, N.Y.) placed 10th (9:51.54), freshman Mary Cullen (Sligo, Ireland) took 11th place (9:52.32) and sophomore Emily Tallen (Kingston, Ontario) rounded out the Friar top finishers in 16th (10:17.97). In other top finishes, freshman Emma Foster (Schuylerville, N.Y.) earned an eighth-place finish in the high jump, with a leap of 1.57 meters.
