PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College men's and women's track and field teams traveled south to compete at the University of Rhode Island Sorlien Invitational today. The men swept the top-three places in the 5000m while freshman Shelby Graney (Suffern, N.Y.) placed second in the mile with a time of 4:53.37. Sophomore Mary Kate Champagne (Plattsburg, N.Y.) and freshman Samantha Roecker placed fourth and seventh in the mile with times of 4:53.86 and 5:02.66, respectively.

In the women's 3000m, graduate student Katie DiCamillo (Garden City, N.Y.) placed second in 10:04.93 and sophomore Sara Graney (Palisades, N.Y.) placed sixth in 10:34.74.

On the men's side, graduate student Richard Yeats (Dublin, Ireland) finished second in the mile in a time of 4:15.96 while senior Tom Webb (Williston, Vt.) placed fifth in 4:23.19. Freshmen Patrick Desabato (Narberth, Pa.), Eric Malnati (Walpole, N.H.) and Ahmed Ali (Boston, Mass.) swept the top-three spots in the 5000m. DeSabato placed first in 15:16.69 with Malnati and Ali finishing second and third in 15:22.50 and 15:22.53, respectively. Sophomores Dominic Channon (Nelson, New Zealand), Julian Matthews (Nelson, New Zealand) and Lee Carey (Bedworth, England) combined with junior Thomas Manglaviti (Southhampton, N.Y.) to win the distance medley in a time of 10:04.10.

Both teams will travel Boston, Mass. to compete at the Terrier Classic next weekend. The women's meet takes place on Friday, January 29 while the men compete on Saturday.
