Women's Indoor Track Competes At Women's Challenge Cup
Jan. 20, 2002 PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College women's indoor track team competed at the Women's Challenge Cup at Brown University on Saturday, January 19. Emer O'Shea (Limerick, Ireland) and Roisin McGettigan (Wicklow, Ireland) turned in first place finishes in the 1,000-meter run and 3,000-meter run, respectively. The team also posted a first-place finish (12:17.51) in the distance medley relay, run by Deirdre Bryne (Avoca, Ireland), Kate Gall (Cumberland, Md.), Mary Cullen (Sligo, Ireland) and O'Shea. O'Shea finished the 1,000-meter run in a time of 2:55.58. Cullen finished the event in third place (2:59.23). McGettigan finished the 3,000-meter run in a time of 9:51.24. Marissa Colburn (Wethersfield, Conn.) took fourth place, finishing in 10:32.27. Emily Tallen (Kingston, Ontario) finished third in the mile, in a time of 5:08.97, while Lisa Cappello (Lockport, N.Y.) placed fourth, with a time of 5:10.09. In the 800-meter run, Byrne placed second (2:17.73). In the 500-meter run, Gall took fifth place (1:20.76), and Carolyn Turco (Danvers, Mass.) finished ninth (1:27.19).
