PROVIDENCE, R.I. -
The Providence College men's and women's track teams will travel to Kingston, R.I. on Saturday, Jan. 19 to compete at the URI Invitational. The events will begin at 11:00 a.m. at the Mackal Fieldhouse on Rhode Island’s campus.
This will be the first event of the season that the Friars will be running a full squad. In their most recent competition, PC went to the Fordham Quad meet in Bronx, N.Y. on Dec. 7, 2012. Highlights at the event included the Providence women taking the top-three spots in the women’s 1,000 meters and the mile, and the men also took the top spot in the mile.
Sophomore Shane Quinn (Waterford, Ireland), who took second in the men’s 3,000 meters at the IC4As in Boston, Mass. last season, will be competing in the mile for his first event of the 2012 campaign. He ran the mile once last season with a time of 4:11.78. Quinn is coming off break from competing at the NCAA Cross Country Championships in November, when he finished tied for 69th as an individual competitor.
Junior Emily Sisson (Chesterfield, Mo.) also will be making her first appearance of the season in the women’s mile. Last season, Sisson ran the event three times and finished fifth at the BIG EAST Championship with a time of 4:49.52. Currently, her personal best in the mile is 4:38.91. Last year, Sisson was the only female Friar to compete at the NCAA Indoor Track Championship. She finished 12th in the 3,000 meters with a time of 9:25.13.
