Women's Indoor Track Competes at Boston University Open

BOSTON, Mass. -- The Providence College women's indoor track team opened the 2002-03 season on Friday, December 6 at the Boston University Open. Senior Roisin McGettigan (Wicklow, Mass.) captured the mile run, senior Emer O'Shea (Limerick, Ireland) won the 800-meter run and classmate Heather Cappello (Lockport, N.Y.) took first-place in the 3,000 meter run.

McGettigan finish the mile run in a time of 4:52, O'Shea recorded a time of 2:15 in the 800-meter run and Cappello finished the 3,000-meter run in a time of 9:51, while her sister Lisa Cappello placed second (9:58). In the 4X400 meter relay, the team of sophomores Roisin Quinn (Waterford, Ireland) and Deirdre Byrne (Avoca, Ireland) as well as McGettigan and O'Shea placed first in a time of 3:56.

Quinn also placed fourth (1:00) in the 400-meter run, Byrne finished second (5:03) in the mile run and sophomore Juliette Paul (Chicago, Ill.) took sixth-place in the 800-meter run.

The Friars will next compete at the University of Rhode Island Invitational on January 10.
