PROVIDENCE, R.I. - This weekend marked the start of a long indoor track season for the Providence College Friars track teams. The men and women competed back-to-back at the Fordham Invitational on Friday, December 5th at Fordham University and Saturday, December 6 at the Brown Invitational at Brown University.

The women enjoyed successful performances in both meets. In the mile at the Fordham meet, senior Katie Elliot (Penfield, N.Y.) finished second in a time of 5:10.9 and Katherine Schock (Norwood, Mass.) placed fourth (5:15.0). While in the jumping events, sophomore Caley Brown (Darien, Conn.) finished third in the high jump clearing the height of 4'7".

At the Brown Invitational, senior Katie Elliot (Penfield, N.Y.) had similar success, winning the 1,000 meter run in a time of 2:59.96, while teammates Katherine Schock (Norwood, Mass.) placed second (3:00.65), and Amie Schumacher (Wolcott, Conn.) finished third (3:01.15). In the jumping events, junior Caitlin Lawrence (Franklin, Mass.) placed fourth in the high jump, clearing a height of 5'2". The women look forward to their next competion at the University of Rhode Island Invitational on January 16, 2009.
