Men's and Women's Track and Field Teams Compete at Fordham Invitational

BRONX, N.Y. - The Providence College men's and women's track teams traveled to Bronx, N.Y. to open the 2009-10 season at the Fordham Invitational. Junior Stephen Hankinson (Summit, N.J.) and graduate student Richard Yeates (Dublin, Ireland) finished first and second in the mile while graduate student Alan Pandiani (Shrewsbury, Mass.) and junior Thomas Manglaviti (Southhampton, N.Y.) tied for second in the 400m dash.

Hankinson crossed the finish line in the mile at 4:24 with Yeates finishing five seconds behind the pace at 4:29. Freshmen Ahmed Ali (Boston, Mass.), Pat Desabato (Narberth, Pa.) and sophomore Edward Jennings (New York, N.Y.) all finished in the top-seven as well. Ali placed fourth (4:36.90), Desabato placed fifth (4:38.50) and Jennings placed seventh (4:41.20). In the 400m dash, Pandiani and Manglaviti both crossed the line at 51:40.

In the women's mile run, senior Amie Schumacher (Wolcott, Conn.) and junior Christina Conley (Andover, Mass.) placed fourth and fifth, respectively. Schumacher came in at 5:24.20 with Conley right behind at 5:26. Sophomore Meg Van Name (Stamford, Conn.) placed well in the 400m dash, finishing fourth overall with a time of 1:01.20. Junior Julie Wolf (Holden, Mass.) wasn't far behind as she placed sixth in a time of 1:01.70.

The two teams will travel across Providence to compete at the Brown University Alden Invitational on Saturday, December 5.
