Men's And Women's Indoor Track And Field Competes At The Fordham Invitational And Alden Invitational

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College men's and women's indoor track teams competed at the Fordham Opener Invitational on Friday, December 2 and at the Brown University Alden Invitational on Saturday, December 3. Junior Meghan Owen (Danielson, Conn.) qualifed for the BIG EAST Conference and ECAC Championship in two events. At Fordham, she qualified in the 1,000-meter run as she finished first with a time of 2:56.7. At the Alden Invitational, Owen qualified for both championships in the mile with a first-place finish in a time of 4:53.62. Graduate student Aine Hoban (Wakefield, England), freshman Katie DiCamillo (Garden City, N.Y.) and sophomore Michelle Childs (Cameron, Ontario) each qualified for the BIG EAST Championship in the mile while competing at the Alden Invitational. Hoban finished second with a time of 4:58.88. DiCamillo finished third in a time of 5:02.38, and Childs was fourth with a time of 5:02.76. The Friars return to action Saturday, December 10 at the Harvard Invitational in Boston, Mass. On the men's side senior Richard Jones (Wellington, New Zealand) placed first in two events on the weekend. At Fordham, Jones won the 800 meters with a time of 1:58.1. The following day at the Alden Invitational, Jones took first place in the 1,000 meters with a time of 2:33.22. Sophomore Chris McDermott (West Haven, Conn.) won the 1,000 meters (2:38.9) at Fordham. At the Alden Invitational, sophomore James Lourenco (West Warwick, R.I.) won the 400 meters with a time of 51.65. Sophomore Ahmed Haji (West Hartford, Conn.) won the 3,000 meter race in a time of 8:37.87. The Friars return to action on Saturday, December 10 at the Harvard Invitational in Boston, Mass.
