SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- The Providence College men's and women's track team competed on the second day of competition at the 2005 Men's and Women's NCAA Track & Field Championships in Sacramento, Calif. on Thursday, June 9. Senior Mary Cullen (Sligo, Ireland) finished third in the 10,000 meters (33:12.32) and earned her fourth All-America accolade. Cullen's time of 33:12.32 was the second fastest 10,000 meters time recorded by a PC runner. In April, Cullen set the Providence 10,000 record with a time of 32:57.61 at the Mt. Sac Relays in Walnut, Calif.

In women's 1,500 meter preliminaries, senior Deirdre Byrne (Wicklow, Ireland) placed 18th in a time of 4:20.69.

Two Friars competed in the men's 1,500 meter preliminaries. Senior Liam Reale (Hospital, Ireland) finished 14th (3:47.02) and freshman Max Smith (Dunedin, New Zealand) placed 18th (3:49.59).

Junior Fiona Crombie (Christchurch, New Zealand) will be the final Friar to run at the 2005 NCAA Championships when she competes in the finals of the 3,000 meter steeplechase on Friday, June 10 at 10:05 p.m. EST.
