Track and Field Standout Shelby Greany Advances to NCAA Semifinals

    JACKSONVILLE, FLORIDA - Providence College Track and Field's Shelby Greany (Suffern, N.Y.) cleared her first hurdle en route to the NCAA Finals, advancing in the 3000-meter Steeplechase at the East Preliminaries at Hodges Stadium.

    Greany placed third in her quarterfinal heat late Friday night, crossing the line in 10:05.95.

    The top three finishers in each of the three heats, plus the next three fastest performers, move on to Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa in two weeks. There, they will join 12 qualifiers from the West regionals to form the semifinal field on Wednesday, June 6. The women's steeplechase final is scheduled for Friday, June 8.

    Saturday, May 26, marks the final day of competition at the East Regionals and five other Friars will make their case to join Greany in Iowa. Senior Julian Matthews (Nelson, New Zealand) is scheduled to compete in the quarterfinals of the 1500-meters at 6:30 p.m. Classmates Lee Carey (Bedworth, England) and Dominic Channon (Nelson, New Zealand) will contend in the men's 5,000 semifinals at 8:05 p.m., followed by sophomore Emily Sisson (Chesterfield, Mo.) and senior Charlotte Ffrench O'Carroll (Dublin, Ireland) in the women's 5K semi's at 8:45 p.m.
